What is public?

Published cat names, registrations, ancestry, birth dates, colors, breeders, source citations, and curator notes. Do not place personal addresses, contact details, or signatures in public notes.

What stays private?

Contributor names and email addresses, original uploaded documents, and the review queue are accessible only to the curator. Uploads are stored in the database and served only after curator authentication. They are not published as public download links.

Cat photos

Submitted photos and private permission statements are reviewed by the curator. Approved photos and their public credits appear only on published cat records. Images are resized and re-encoded to remove camera metadata. Photo permission for public display does not automatically authorize use in paid products.

Assisted transcription

The curator may send uploaded documents to OpenAI to prepare draft cat facts and ancestry links. This external processing is covered by the contribution consent; redact personal details before uploading. Drafts require human review. Original documents are not published, and owner contact details are excluded from extracted cat facts. Reviewed source transcriptions can appear on published cat records.

Review and corrections

Submissions do not publish automatically. Document-supported status describes the cited evidence, not guaranteed correctness. Conflicts should be recorded rather than hidden. Request a correction or removal using the contribution form, or contact Bastcats.

Storage

Records and evidence are retained for archival review unless removed by the curator. This site uses an essential session cookie for form security and curator access. Hosting may retain technical logs. Complete archive exports contain private material and must be handled securely.
